We buy chillies from the market in bulk spending our savings. But, after a few days, they lose their freshness. So why not bring them into our gardens and raise them in a few steps. It would save our money, time, and effort.
Chili, being a tropical fruit requires plenty of light, heat, moisture, and humidity. They grow well at temperatures falling between 20-25°C. A day length of 5-6 hours is good enough for a healthy plant. A well-drained soil, accompanied by nutrients is suitable for better growth and germination. Natural fertilizers such as cow dung, tea manure, vegetable-fruits peel, etc. can be used to nourish the soil. So before starting the process, we should keep in mind the conditions necessary for the healthy plant to grow.
Here’s a quick plan to add chilli to the lovely pot or garden:
1. Take a large tray or any container of appropriate depth. Sprinkle the seeds with enough water and sow in the soil about 2-3 cm deep. Sprinkle water on alternate days over the soil to provide the required amount of water.
2. After 7-10 days of planting, the young leaves will appear on the surface of the soil. So, when the seeds turn into saplings separate them.
3. Now, choose a pot or container of suitable depth (about 12”) with proper holes. Plant those saplings into these containers containing well-drained soil and place them in a sunny location to foster plant growth. Water the plant whenever required when the topsoil seems to be dry.
After 60-70 days, the chillies would be ready to be picked!
